"I came to understand how much kids really love to venture and want to help cook in the kitchen.
With the urge to discover, create something new, use fertile imagination and emulate Mom or Dad - many of us love the creative arts and the aroma of the kitchen. We were toddlers once and one easier way how we pursued creativity was role playing, and that was through the wonders of cooking in our home kitchen.
However, these little jaunts to the kitchen usually lead to unwanted spills and messy droppings to the consternation of us busy parents. And due to our gnawing fear about slips, cuts and burns - - cooking and the high-heat environs of the family kitchen was clearly meant for adults. Thus our love affair for something of a lifelong significance has been abruptly nipped off in the bud.
Fast-forward to early teens and young adults: As kids continue on with their sensory pursuits, they become more adept at using their hands and work their peculiar senses. New interests develop; peer competitiveness subsides, lofty imagination grows along with the development of abstract logical thinking.
Teaching kids to cook at this stage of their young life enables them to learn fundamental values that will anchor their coming-of-age through to adulthood. As cooking is all of being organized, planning, and time management, making the right choices is a virtue that kids embrace early on. Young adults get to pursue creativity and imagination and real-life lessons in science, mathematics and inter-personal relationship are imbibed.
With the opportunity to create something from the depths of their mind and the dexterity of their fingers will definitely boost self -confidence. Eating healthy takes precedence over what would otherwise have been a flawed diet of junk and grease-laden food. Similarly, the food pyramid classification concept is appreciated and proper nutrition values provide our children the imprints of a healthy diet.
Starting 1st April to May 30th of 2012, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Culinary Institute will host a culinary boot camp for kids ages 8 to 16. Enroll your child in summer in an environment that ensures fun and creativity - - cooking tested recipes that will be cherished for the rest of their life."
